Check-In Challenge: Week #2!

Goooood morning & Happy Hump Day :)  Okay.  So one week of our Healthy Habit Check-In Challenge down.  How is everyone feeling?  How many days last week were you able to squeeze in your new healthy habit of 12 PBP's before bed?  SO PROUD of everyone who's participating.  I'm a BIGtime believer in babysteps :)

Today is the official start of Week #2.  Here's the deal.  Continue with your pre-bedtime-pushups.  The idea is add each week's habit into your normal routine...and KEEP it there!  So, keep those PBPs coming, and add Week #2's challenge into your life as well.

Okay.  Here we go...

Check-In Challenge:  Week #2
10 consecutive minutes of cardio
 
What qualifies as cardio?  Well, anything intentional that you wouldn't normally do.  You can't add up all the times you park your car and walk to and from various stores to equal 10 minutes.  SORRY!  You CAN, however, park somewhere, walk around the parking lot for 10 minutes before entering the store.  No one will think you're crazy, promise :)  Some options:
  • Power Walking sesh w/your dog (this week might be their FAVE challenge of all!)
  • Jumprope
  • Quick 10-minute jog around your neighborhood
  • 10 minutes of zumba/intense dancing! 
  • Hit the gym and drop into 10 minutes of a cardio-based class (If you arrive in the middle of the class, be sure to warm up first!)
  • Take your kids to the park and walk laps around the playground.  Better yet, load up the wagon & walk around the 'hood for 10 minutes BEFORE arriving at the park :)
The ACSM guidelines for cardiovascular fitness are 30 minutes of medium-intensity cardio "most days of the week".  I usually tell people to start with 3 days, and work up to 5!  Cardio can include walking, running, biking, jumping rope, kickboxing, circuit weight-lifting, dancing, boxing, etc.  By starting with 10 minute EVERY DAY we are committing to 70 minutes of cardio this week.  Although the goal is to eventually work up to 90-150 minutes per week...this is a GREAT start!  Once you carve our time for 10 minutes a day and it becomes habit, chances are your body will CRAVE even more of this super healthy habit!
